The West Ryde Town Centre was once a major shopping strip. Council studies show a redevelopment of the area is necessary to recreate a village feel for the area and provide more convenient retail and community facilities.
The local community expressed a desire for more childcare services, newer and updated buildings, and more areas for social networking.
The Remo Group’s design, by Jack Taylor Architects, meets the needs of the community and Council. The West Ryde Village development will create a safe and attractive environment for pedestrians, a mixed use precinct with facilities for living, working, commerce, leisure, culture, community services, education and spiritual nurture.
The West Ryde Village development is proposed for the properties adjacent to the existing West Ryde Marketplace and on the site of the old West Ryde Library.
The development is comprised of two key precincts.
Precinct 1 consists of a seven-storey building above five basement levels containing retail, commercial and residential uses including:
- Retail facilities including a supermarket and specialty retail shops
- A gymnasium, medical centre and office spaces
- Five levels of residential apartments
- Over 600 car parking spaces (including 172 car parking spaces to be handed over to Council)
- A Council Village Square that will provide a focal point to the centre.
Precinct 2 will contain a new four-storey community facility building that will accommodate:
- Ryde Family Support Services – a community based organization that provides practical and emotional support for families and children who are experiencing stress or crisis
- Early Childhood Health Centre – A centre providing information and support on parenting, child health and development for Ryde parents and caregivers with children under five. This service is provided by nurses with training and experience in child and family health.
